PSCM History

In an organizational meeting at the Philippine Plaza Hotel on November 28, 1992, obstetricians-gynecologists, cardiologists, orthopedic surgeons and psychiatrists, radiologists, nutritionists, and rheumatologists formally organized the Philippine Society of Climacteric Medicine (PSCM). Elected officers and members of the board were:

Dr. Copernico Villaruel, board members.

Focusing on its objectives, the society is aimed at promoting the study of all aspects of the climacteric in both men and women; organizing, preparing, holding and participating in meetings and congresses on subjects related to its objectives; enhancing the interchange of research plans and experience between individual members of society; and disseminating relevant information to both physicians and laymen alike.

PSCM is affiliated with the International Menopause Society (IMS), and some of its members are also members in the Asia-Pacific Menopause Federation Society. There have been representation of the society with regards to establishment of guidelines in the care of women's health especially of the menopause.  Dissemination of information regarding care of menopause women through lectures, lay fora meetings and out of town programs and establishing menopause clinic in the different regions on the country.

PSCM was incorporated on February 12, 1993.  Its annual activities are:

  • Midyear Convention in the month of May
  • Annual Convention in the month of September
  • Menopause month every October of the year

Currently, there are 352 active members of the society, 75 of whom are founding members.
